Special elevators for chimneys
In October 2009, we completed the supply and assembly of a permanent elevator on a chimney at the Siekierki power station in Poland's capital, Warsaw up to a height of 170 metres. It is the second such special elevator supplied to our Polish partner.
The first case was also the supply of an elevator for a power station chimney, but then it was in the town of Polaniec and the elevator was installed inside the chimney to a height of 150 metres. In both cases it was the NOV 514 UP elevator which was supplied, having a load capacity of 500 kg and a speed of 35 m/min. The elevator in Warsaw was equipped with a frequency inverter which, among other things, ensures a smooth start and stop. It was assembled by our own technicians, who erected the elevator tower on the power station chimney and installed and put into operation the elevator cabin together with the landing gates at the various levels allowing safe entry at all five landings on the chimney. The chimney was newly built and during the elevator installation, work on its completion was ongoing. The companies who were building the chimney were also able to use the elevator when necessary, although only under the supervision of STROS technicians. At times when a number of companies were fully working at one time on the one chimney it was not particularly easy to carry on installing the elevator.
This project was immediately followed by another, again at the Siekierki power station in Warsaw on another chimney, this time to a height of 200 metres. Thus over just under a year and a half, STROS has manufactured and installed three special elevators for Polish power stations and further projects are currently under discussion.
